Health Care
For over a decade, there has been a coordinated effort to strip health care from millions of Americans, including those with pre-existing conditions. In the midst of a global pandemic, protecting access to health care has never been more important.
Right now, a lawsuit brought by a coalition of conservative attorneys general led by Texas AG Ken Paxton seeks to eliminate the Affordable Care Act. This lawsuit threatens health care coverage for 20 million Americans who are currently covered by the ACA, more than 133 million Americans living with pre-existing conditions, and the millions of people who’ve recently lost their jobs who will no longer have health care from their employers.
If the lawsuit is successful, millions of Americans will lose coverage, costs for insurance plans and prescription drugs will go up, protections for people with pre-existing conditions will disappear, and resources for rural hospitals will be even more scarce.
A separate coalition of state attorneys general led by California AG Xavier Becerra is fighting back in court to protect access to health care, and we urge all Attorneys General to join their effort.
The case, California vs. Texas, will be heard before the Supreme Court on November 10, 2020.
